Biography
The country's sixth-ranked and conference's number-one wrestler at 150 pounds is now a three-time Pac-10 champion. His 12-4 major decision victory over the Sun Devils' Michael Douglas secured his third trophy in as many years. Norton was the first Duck wrestler to capture three consecutive conference championships since Mike Erb (118) in 1981-1983. He scored a 10-1 win in the first round against B.J. Sanchez of Stanford and a narrow 2-1 result over the Broncos' Larry Quisel advanced Norton to another appearance in the championship round. He is on a 15-match win streak since being handed his only loss back on January 2. Norton has four titles this season (Southern Oregon Open, Mat Town Invitational, Oregon Classic, Pac-10), raising his total to 12 in his career. He stands third all-time on Oregon's career win list with 107 victories, and his .969 season winning percentage places him third on that ledger. Norton has a chance to establish a new personal mark for victories in a season, breaking his old record of 33. He has shut out his opponent six times this year and recorded two technical falls. He is one of just six wrestlers at Oregon to amass 100 wins on the mat and ranks as the decade's winningest wrestler at Oregon. This is Norton's third NCAA appearance. The high school All-American was a three sport star (wrestling, cross country, track) at Kodiak H.S., winning one Alaska state championship and twice placing third at the state meet. He was named team MVP in his various sports seven times.
